Automobile enthusiasts were eagerly awaiting the launch of the 2018 Swift at this year’s Auto Expo and Maruti Suzuki has finally launched the third generation version of the popular car in the Indian market. There are 12 variants in all for the 2018 Swift and it is priced between Rs. 4.99-6.96 lakhs for the petrol variant and between Rs. 5.99-7.96 lakhs for the diesel version. Prices have increased by approximately 5% for the 2018 Swift according to reports.
The new Swift is wider by 40 mm than the earlier model although length has been shortened by 10 mm. There is more cabin space and a larger boot this time. The diesel and petrol models are also lighter to the tune of 75 and 85 kg respectively. The same 1.3 litre diesel four cylinder engine has been retained that makes 75 PS and 190 Nm. The 1.2 litre four cylinder petrol engine has also been retained for the Swift and it makes 84 PS and 113 Nm like before.
However, the 2018 Swift gets an AMT option for both engines for the first time in tandem with the standard 5-speed manual transmission unit. Fuel economy has increased by 7% and 12% for the petrol and diesel versions respectively. The fuel economy figures stand at 22 kmpl and 28.4 kmpl respectively for these variants. The 2018 Swift looks more contemporary and stylish than its previous counterpart and gets a more improved cabin. The steering wheel has been sourced from the new Dzire although the wood inlays are given a miss here. There is a twin-pod instrument cluster and a new infotainment unit with MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto options. The air conditioning unit also looks new in terms of its design.
