The Indian version of the popular Honda City sedan contributes a healthy 25% to its global sales volumes. The fourth generation Honda City has achieved a major milestone with cumulative sales volumes crossing more than 2.5 lakh units in just 42 months since its launch. This makes it the best selling City model ever from Honda Cars.
The fourth generation City was launched in January 2014 in the Indian market and has both petrol and diesel options. There is a CVT transmission unit paired with the petrol variant. The City has however gone through evolutionary trends where customer preferences tilted clearly towards the Honda City’s petrol version. The petrol version contributes a whopping 61% of total sales volumes as compared to 39% derived from sales figures of the diesel variant. More than 30% of customers are opting for the CVT variant now.
According to the President & CEO at Honda Cars India, Yoichiro Ueno, the Honda City is a major backbone of the brand’s business success in the country and comes with new generation technologies. The 4th generation City meets customer aspirations when it comes to choosing premium products and is also a testament to the company’s commitment towards offering the very best driving experiences for customers according to him.

The Honda City was first launched in January 1998 and has dominated the executive sedan market since then. Honda Cars India has already sold a total of 6.8 lakh units of the City in the Indian market till date. The Honda City has already witnessed global sales volumes of more than 3.5 million units across more than 60 countries. Out of this tally, more than 1 million units have come from the 4th generation City.
