The BMW i3 S model may be considered for the Indian market, particularly after it has already been displayed at the Auto Expo 2018. The pre-facelifted model may also have come to India but those plans were eventually shelved. The i3 S is the high-performance variant for the standard BMW i3. There is a uniquely designed front bumper in tandem with a black inlay and accent bar. There are 20-inch wheels and wider tyres. There is also a black roofline, black wheel arch borders and an innovatively designed rear bumper.
There is an electric motor in the i3 S that churns out 184 PS and 270 Nm, i.e. 14 PS and 20 Nm more than the standard BMW i3. The i3 S can hit 100 kilometres per hour in just 6.9 seconds and this is 0.4 seconds lesser in comparison to the conventional BMW i3. The latter can hit a maximum of 150 kilometres per hour while the i3 S can touch 160 kilometres per hour. The i3 S also gets a sports suspension unit which lowers ride height by 10 mm approximately while the track is 40 mm wider. This ensures superior handling as well.
The car gets a Li-ion 33 kWh battery with a 280 km driving range. The BMW i3S with Range Extender also gets a 2-cylinder 0.6-litre petrol engine which churns out 38 PS and 56 Nm. This helps in increasing driving range up to 300 km. The car can hit 220 km on a full charge. Then the combustion engine kicks in for charging the battery of the car. The 100 kmph mark can be achieved in only 7.7 seconds. 2 hours and 45 minutes are needed for the BMW i3 with Range Extender in order to be fully charged. There is the BMW i Wallbox AC 11 kW fast charger. 80% charge can be achieved with the 50 kW DC fast charger.
