VW’s compact sedan Ameo is offered as a product with German Engineering with an Indian heart. The German car giant, VW will be joining the Compact Sedan bandwagon with the Polo-derived Ameo. The car was showcased in the recently concluded Auto Expo 2016. The car is specially conceived for the Indian market, taking advantage of the tax benefits for cars below 4-meter length barrier.
The car is unmistakably a Polo with a boot. The car retains the not flashy but elegant and crisp lines of the hatchback sibling. The boot is integrated well and not look like an afterthought. However, to keep the length of the car under 4 meters, VW engineers have to use a slab and flat design for the rear. The car also reminds of the Vento from the rear quarters, which is a good thing.
The car exudes German quality inside, similar to other VW cars in India. Ameo offers sufficient interior space and also the boot can be enlarged by folding down the rear seats, adding to the practicality factor. Safety features like dual airbags, ABS, and ESP will be standard across all the variants. The top-end variant will have a touch interface infotainment and will spot some of the segment features like rain sensing wipers, mobile screen mirroring (mirror link) and cruise control.
The car will come with the same 1.2 Liter MPI Petrol and 1.5 Liter TDI Diesel motor already doing duties on the Polo. VW will also bring in a 7-speed DSG box on the top of the line variant.
The will jostle for space in the compact sedan space with the established market leader Suzuki Swift Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Ford Aspire, Tata Zest and the Honda Amaze.
The car is expected to be launched at the start of second half of the calendar year 2016. IBB Initial Impression The first tailor made car for India by VW appears to be a promising product. The car has unparalleled elegance and will have the class leading premium interiors. VW will be playing the Value For Money rather than the cheapest of the lot card to carve a space among the compact sedans. The fun to drive DSG box will be an added attraction.
