Electric vehicles (EVs) are slowly and steadily growing in popularity in India. However, EVs are yet to find significant traction among the Indian car buying public. Anticipating the increase in demand for EVs in the future, Tata Motors is readying their electric car line-up in India.
The first electric car to hit the Indian market from Tata will be an EV based on the Tiago. The Indian car maker has been working along with UK-based Tata Motors European Technical Centre (TMETC) developing electric powered engines. Tiago in a short term has been a runaway success in both petrol and diesel avatars.
Tata Motors already showcased the electric version of the Bolt hatchback prototype in the UK. The Tiago electric is expected to borrow heavily from the Bolt BEV prototype. Tiago is the most sensible platform for an electric car in the Tata stable. Considering the low cost and the practicality the car will definitely instil interest among private buyers as well taxi segment.
