Toyota is going all out when it comes to beefing up its electric car lineup globally. As per the company’s official statement, it will be launching more than 10 electric cars (battery powered) by early 2020. These will first go to China followed by Japan, United States, India and Europe among other markets. Toyota is also targeting 5.5 million units in sales figures for electric vehicles by the year 2030 and this includes more than 1 million units in sales of zero-emission vehicles, battery electric vehicles and fuel cell electric vehicles.
Toyota has confirmed that by the year 2025, all models in the Toyota and Lexus portfolios will either get dedicated electric versions or will have electrified options. The fuel cell electric vehicle range will also be scaled up by the year 2020 across both commercial and passenger vehicle segments. Toyota has already entered into a tie-up with Suzuki Motor Corporation for manufacturing and launching electric vehicles by 2020 in the Indian market.

Suzuki is reportedly building its own plant at Gujarat for manufacturing lithium-ion batteries. This will be located near its main unit for manufacturing cars exclusively for the Maruti Suzuki brand in India. Toyota and Suzuki will jointly conduct a comprehensive study dealing with the ways to spread more awareness about EVs in India, the segments where they have more feasibility and also for attaining more market popularity. Toyota’s vision is concurrent with the plans of the Indian Government to have only electric cars on roads by the year 2030. Toyota is also looking to bring its solid-state batteries into the market and has reportedly been working on this technology for quite some time.

The automotive giant has also partnered with Panasonic for a prospective joint venture that will manufacture prismatic batteries for the automotive sector. Both companies will first conduct a feasibility study in this regard
