Rolls Royce Dawn - Feel the breeze

A company that engineers, manufactures, and distributes automobiles and its parts worldwide; Rolls Royce is a wholly owned subsidiary of BMW which was established in 1998. Rolls Royce is a British auto manufacturing company who are known for their superlatively elite vehicles.

Adding to their elite vehicle portfolio, Rolls Royce is all set to roll out their new model the Rolls Royce Dawn on June 24th 2016. This sleek and luxurious soft-top convertible can be booked only on order. One of the first RRs offered way back in 1949 was called the Silver Dawn and in lieu of paying a tribute to this legendary car, now, the 2016 model is also named Dawn to carry forth the bequest ahead. Named as one of the best looking cars ever built by Rolls Royce, the Dawn is the second convertible to be launched in the Indian market apart from the Phantom Drophead. This mean machine is priced at approximately INR 6.5 crores.

Key Takeaways

  • Second convertible to be launched in India by RR after the Phantom Drophead
  • Soft fabric top which opens and closes in just 22 seconds even at a speed of 50km/h
  • Surprisingly, the most quiet cabin ever
  • Priced at a whopping INR 6.5 crores

Personalization to please you

As all other Rolls Royce cars, the Dawn too offers the choice of being personalized to the extent you please. An interesting fact about the Dawn is that in contrast to other models of the Rolls Royce which are often termed mysterious and dark, this car denotes brightness and sunshine.

A Piece of the Cabin

All the cabins of the British carmaker are known to be so quiet, that you can hear the seconds hand move on your watch and the Dawn does no less. Infact, it’s known to be the quietest cabin of the lot despite the fabric sunroof. The sunroof of the car has the ability to open and close in 22 seconds and even at the speed of 50 km/h it can retract/expand! This feature is the USP or the standout feature of this vehicle.

Apart from this, some of the features of the interior include four zone automatic controls, premium audio system with sixteen individually tuned speakers, a touchpad which takes writing and voice command and chrome decorative inserts. Although a 4-seater, this car is substantially spacious and provides ample space for passengers in the front and rear as well. Interestingly, the leather on the seats has been stitched manually, by hand! The centre console and the deck around the seats in the rear feature open-pore wood. A standout feature in this car is the instrument cluster which is unlike the other RR cars. Some unusual and offbeat trimmings have been added to the cabin to amp up the comfort level which may not be seen in other premium vehicles.

The Outer Body- The Rolls Royce Dawn

The Dawn is based on the same platform as the Wraith but it gets a fresh look in terms of the exterior cues which get an all new avatar which is 80% new. As mentioned, there are no significant changes or nips in the Dawn as compared to other models. This convertible comes with a long bonnet in the front and a radiator grille made of chrome. There are LED adaptive headlamps which have been inserted into the nose of the vehicle which also have an anti-glare technology and daytime running LED lights. In comparison, the wheels are much larger than the body. In essence, it has similar styling to the other RR cars which is what has been enticing fanatics for years.

A look under the hood

This immense car is powered by a 6.6L turbo-charged V12 engine which produces a power of 563bhp and a peak torque of 780Nm. This engine is mated an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission gearbox. Although the same specifications are present in the Wraith, this model’s engine is tuned to suit the needs of the Dawn. The Dawn can go at about 0-100km/h in just 4.9 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h.  But the fact still remains that the Wraith is the fastest RR car ever. The fuel consumption based on claimed figures is about 14.2 litres to cover 100 kilometres.
