The New Generation - Honda Civic

As a part of Honda’s decision to re-focus on the premium segment, Honda is mulling seriously to bring in the all new 10th generation Civic to India. The car was unveiled at the Los Angeles Motor show in the last quarter of 2015. The car is expected to make an entry into the Indian car market in the beginning of 2017 calendar year.

Honda Civic

Honda discontinued the production of the Civic in 2013. Sky-rocketing petrol prices and absence of a diesel motor resulted in the Civic’s exit from India. Also with the Car’s like the Chevrolet Cruze, Toyota Corolla Altis and the Hyundai Elantra with diesel motors made buying the petrol Civic not a sensible option in the premium sedan segment.

The eighth generation Civic, which was launched way back in 2006 still looks cool and trendy on Indian roads. The car had a sleek and low-slung styling. The new tenth generation Civic has a bolder front with the large signature Honda grille dominating the front inspired by the hydrogen fuel-cell FCX Clarity. Head on, the car also reminds us of some of the design elements of the Honda City available in India. While the eighth-gen Civic was more about suave styling this one has an edgier and flashy design.

The new Honda Civic will come with petrol as well as diesel motor options. The petrol engine mostly will be the updated version of the 1.8 Liter i-VTEC motor that dishes out 143 bhp which is currently doing duties under the ninth generation Civic. Honda may also give us the 1.5 Liter turbo petrol unit that generates 175 bhp on tap. Honda certainly will bring a diesel Civic this time. Honda will be mostly bringing in the 1.6 Liter i-DTEC diesel motor which churns out 120 bhp and a highway mileage of 20 kmpl+.

Honda is expected to price the car in the Rs 15 lacs- Rs 17 lacs price band. The car will be competing against the likes of Chevrolet Cruze, Skoda Octavia, VW Jetta and the Toyota Corolla Altis. By the time, Hyundai will also be bringing in their updated new generation Elantra to compete against the Civic.
