Honda is all set to venture into the mini-SUV segment against the likes of Ford Ecosport, Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Mahindra TUV 300 and the recent smash hit, the Hyundai Creta. As the name indicates it will be pitched by Honda as a baby CRV.
The car is based on the Honda Brio/ Amaze/Mobilio family. But the interior design much to our relief, doesn’t resemble these cars and inspirations are taken from the Honda City What will make it different from the like of the mini SUV is the car’s capability to accommodate 7 people. The car unlike the Ecosport and the Creta has a third row of seats.
The car looks a lot like the Honda Mobilio, especially in the side profile, but the plastic wheel arch and some chrome bits give the car a unique identity. Also, BRV stands little higher with more ground clearance and will come with 16-inch alloy wheels. The rear has no resemblance with the Mobilio and looks pretty.
The car will come with two engine options. Honda is yet to confirm on the engine options. But as far as the news goes, the car will come with the following engine options which are doing duties on the Honda City,
- 1.5 Liter iVtec with 118 PS power (Petrol)
- 1.5 Liter iDtec with 100 PS power (Diesel)
There will be a petrol CVT option also. Honda will be pricing the car above the Mobilio for sure, but being a Seven seater it will be interesting to see whether Honda will be positioning it as a Creta rival or against the likes of XUV 500 or in between these two cars. Honda is planning to bring the BRV in the first quarter of 2016 calendar year. Honda is expected to price the car aggressively with a starting price tag of ₹ 8-9 lakhs.
