Electric vehicles are expected to be major market driver in India and Hyundai has now unveiled the Ioniq electric vehicle at the 2018 Auto Expo. The hybrid version of the car has also been shown at the Auto Expo 2018. The Ioniq still resembles more of a concept and the design elements are the very latest iterations from Hyundai. The Ioniq hybrid and electric vehicles are not exactly similar. The hybrid version has accents which are copper colored while there are blue accents for the hybrid version.
The Ioniq electric vehicle comes with a motor which makes 120 hp and 295 Nm. The vehicle can touch 100 kilometres per hour in just 10.2 seconds. The car has a top speed of 165 kilometres per hour. The range of the car is approximately 280 kilometres. The Ioniq hybrid version gets an electric motor which churns out 43 hp and 170 Nm. There is the 1.56 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery under the rear seats. The combined output is 139 hp and 265 Nm. The top speed is 185 kilometres per hour.
The Ioniq range comes with features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 7 inch TFT instrument cluster, wireless smartphone charging and a safety package that comprises of blind spot detection, autonomous emergency braking, rear traffic cross alert, lane keep assist and smart cruise control. Hyundai initially planned to launch the Ioniq hybrid version in the country but with GST slabs being tweaked last year and hybrids being put in the highest tax slab, this plan has been junked for now.
The Ioniq electric may or may not come to India although the Kona SUV’s electric version is being considered for the country at present.
