Jeep Grand Cheroke
The name Jeep is associated with rough and tough utilitarian MUVs dominating the hilly terrains and villages of India. This is all going to change soon with the introduction of the American original Jeep brand launching models like the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler in India.

This will definitely change the idea of a Jeep in India. The Fiat-Chrysler alliance is all set to bring the Jeep brand to India. The first model from the Jeep to appear in the Indian market will be the Grand Cherokee.
Even though Jeep has infused plenty of off-road ability and ruggedness, Cherokee is basically designed for carrying families and accomplish daily tasks in luxury and comfort. The front end with signature rectangular slatted grills and the mean looking headlamps with DRL is unmistakably Jeep. The car has real presence on the road. Squared-off wheel arches and high shoulder line with smooth muscles summarizes the side profile. The rear surprisingly looks ordinary and lacks the aggressiveness of the front and the sides. The car has a lot of chrome at the front and the rear.
There is plenty of space for five in the Cherokee. The car gets a lot of storage space, pretty big glove box and sizeable door bins. As there is no footboard, you literally need to climb into the seats. The seats are broad to accommodate even more than normal human frames in comfort. The rear seat which is set a bit low for an SUV has adequate thigh support and pretty good legroom for the rear passenger. There is no third-row seat on the Cherokee.
The dashboard design adopts form follows function theme and looks pretty ordinary for a luxury SUV. The plastics are hard and shiny and lacks soft-touch tactility. The dashboard is dominated by an 8.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Cherokee is loaded with features like radar-based adaptive cruise control, electronically adjustable air suspension and four-wheel drive system to name a few. The summit variant gets heated and ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, reverse camera, sat-nav etc.

Engine and Performance
The car is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 diesel motor that generates a peak power output of 240 bhp and churns out peak torques of 570 Nm. The engine is mated to a ZF-8-speed automatic gearbox. The car breaches the 100 kmph mark in 9 seconds, which is pretty fast for an SUV which weighs 2400 kg plus.
Handling and Ride Comfort
It’s a pretty heavy car and it shows on the curves, however, the air-suspension works really hard to keep things manageable. The car has great straight line stability and can cruise all day long at triple digits making it a great mile-muncher.
The car is expected to price in the Rs 70-75 lakhs price range when launched.
The brand Jeep has a cult following in India, and that is a strong springboard for the brand to start with. Cherokee can be best summarized as a capable and well-built off-roader with lots of equipment and features to qualify as a full-sized luxury SUV as well.
