2017 Ford Mustang GT Premium Fastback Sports Car
A little slice of history: American automotive history will not be complete without the extraordinarily attractive Ford Mustang. The car has been capturing the hearts of automobile aficionados for the last five decades. The first production ready Mustang was unveiled to the public in Ford Pavilion at the New York World’s fair on April 17, 1964. Mustang then was a gorgeous looking sleek car, practically with not much competition.
By 1967, competitors started flocking to share the market pie of the Mustang. Cars like Chevrolet Camaro, Pontiac Fireblade, and Plymouth Barracuda started attacking the Mustang barracks. Ford responded back with a slightly bigger Mustang with a newer body. Ford kept on updating their flagship regularly. Currently, it is the best-selling sports car in the American market.
However, till 2015 Ford always had the Mustang’s steering on the left-hand side. Finally, in the autumn of 2015 (after 50 years!) Ford started minting out right hand drive Mustangs in the UK car market. Ford is all set to bring the sixth generation of this iconic car to India this month. With the mighty 5.0-liter V8 petrol power pot. Yes, you read it right, very soon you will be able to drive out a Mustang from the Ford showroom near you. The car attracted a lot of attention in the last edition of Delhi Auto Expo.
Undoubtedly it’s a great looking car. The car has a fine blend of old traditional Mustang design and modern elements. The car looks big and burly with oodles of muscles and lines. The front is gracefully wicked, sides belong to a muscular fastback and the rear is typical American with the signature tri-bar tail lamps and the GT 50 years badge.
It may be big on the outside, but not that big inside. However, the interior design really complements the exterior of the Mustang. The car has a low-slung driving position with a low set roof. The interiors are well screwed together and have a chunky feeling to all the elements inside. The interiors are definitely modern, however, an old world charm has been infused into it. Ford offers space for two at the rear, but it is very much cramped.
Coming to the engine, Ford has two engines for the current generation Mustang. The smaller 2.3 Liter Ecoboost and the bigger 5.0 Liter V8 petrol motors. Ford will be bringing only the bigger 5.0 Liter V8 engine to India. This engine generates 395 bhp and a peak torque of 515 Nm torque. This one is claimed to be the fastest Mustang built ever in the last 50 years. Being a 5.0 Liter V8 petrol, expect it will be one thirsty car.

It will be interesting how Ford plans to roll out the cars thru the existing dealer network. Only time will tell how many will be bold enough to go with the Pony.
