Jeep India unveiled their most anticipated SUV, the Compass in India on 12th April 2016. The new Compass broke its cover in the international market in November 2016 and Jeep India had clearly indicated their plans to bring the Compass to India. We expect Jeep India to launch the Compass with a very competitive price tag in the second half of 2017 calendar year during the festive season.
The Jeep Compass shares the ‘small-wide 4X4 architecture’ underpinning of the Jeep Renegade. This architecture was first introduced in Fiat’s 500 L MPV. Look wise, the Compass shares the design language of its larger stable mates - Cherokee and Grand Cherokee. The signature 7-slat grille defines the front end styling of the Compass; the headlamps, the face and overall proportions remind us of the Cherokee which will definitely instill interest and desirability for the Compass among car buying public.

The SUV will come with two engine options - 1.4-Litre turbo-petrol and a 2.0-Litre turbocharged diesel unit. The petrol engine dispenses a peak power of 160 HP and turning torque of 260 Nm and the diesel engine generates 170 HP and 350 Nm peak torque. Customers can either choose a 6-speed manual or 7-speed auto box as transmission; the car also comes equipped with AWD capability and Jeep’s terrain response system with three drive modes: snow, rock, and sand, which can be selected based on the terrain.

The car will be manufactured in India at Fiat’s Ranjangaon plant and local production will ensure the Compass to be priced very competitively; we expect Jeep to price the Compass in the Rs 20-27 lakh price range (ex-showroom). Also, Jeep has plans to export the right-hand drive models to various countries.
