The Jeep Compass SUV has been launched in India at an aggressive price point, thereby posing strong competition to the likes of the Mahindra XUV500, Tata Hexa, Hyundai Creta and Hyundai Tucson among other cars in similar price points.
The new Jeep Compass has been launched at prices ranging between Rs.14.95-20.65 lakhs (ex-showroom). The Compass SUV is the least expensive product from Jeep and this has been made possible with the product being locally produced at the Ranjangaon facility owned by Fiat. The Jeep Compass SUV will be available in three variants, namely Sport, Longitude and Limited. It will also come with both diesel and petrol engine options.

The Jeep Compass is priced at Rs.14,95,000 (ex-showroom) for the entry-level Sport variant while the Limited variant is priced at Rs.18, 70, 000 (AT). The petrol Limited Option is priced at Rs.19, 40, 000 (AT). The Jeep Compass diesel variants are priced from Rs.15,45,000 for the Sport variant while the Longitude and Longitude Option variants are priced at Rs.16,45,000 and Rs.17,35,000 respectively. The Limited and Limited Option variants are priced at Rs.18,05,000 and Rs.18,75,000 respectively. The Limited 4x4 variant is priced at Rs.19,95,000 and the Limited Option 4x4 is priced at Rs.20,65,000. All prices are ex-showroom figures. The Jeep Compass SUV will prove to be a tough competitor for the Mahindra XUV500, which is priced between Rs.12.20-18.10 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi)
The Jeep Compass shares its platform with the Renegade and the styling of the SUV is heavily inspired from the Grand Cherokee SUV. The butch design will impress buyers along with the signature Jeep grille and accentuated wheel arches. The SUV also gets LED daytime running lights, projector headlamps and LED headlamps along with LED taillights. The alloy wheels are striking while there are five color options, namely Exotica Red, Minimal Grey, Vocal White, Hydro Blue and Hip Hop Black.

The interiors are packed with features and there are neat seats with white leather upholstery. The dashboard layout is elegant yet functional. The central console has a touch screen infotainment unit complete with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. The model also comes with a height adjustable driver’s seat, frequency sensing damping technology and electronic parking assist. Jeep India has stated that there are more than 50 safety features in the Compass including full function Traction Control, hill start assist, Panic Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hydraulic Boost Failure Compensation and Electronic Roll Mitigation. The Compass also gets 6 airbags.
The Compass SUV comes with a 1.4 litre Multi-Air Turbo engine that dishes out 160 BHP and 250 Nm of peak torque while transmission options include a 7-speed DCT automatic and 6-speed manual gearbox. There is also a 2 litre Multi-Jet diesel engine that makes 170 BHP and 350 Nm. This engine is paired to a 6-speed manual transmission unit. The automatic diesel trim will be launched sometime later as per reports. The petrol engine will come in a 2WD avatar while the diesel engine will have both 2WD and 4WED options. Both engines can be easily made BS-VI compliant according to Jeep.
Jeep India is also offering a warranty of 3 years or 100,000 kilometres for the Compass. FCA is also offering the Mopar Care facility with 3 year 24x7 Roadside Assistance (complementary) and the service interval is 1 year or 15, 000 kilometres. Jeep has confirmed that more than 38, 000 enquiries have been received along with 5, 000 bookings for the Compass. The company aims to function out of approximately 50 dealerships across India by the end of the year while the service network encompasses 48 centres across the country as well. The deliveries of the Compass diesel model will start first while the petrol version of the Compass will be delivered sometime later according to Jeep India.
