Maruti is planning to plonk in the AMT (Automatic Manual Transmission) gearbox in their massively popular Swift hatchback in India. The popularity of AMT gearboxes is increasing in the Indian car market. AMT gearboxes offer comparable mileage figures to a normal manual gearbox and are not that expensive to manufacture compared to a traditional auto box.
The car will come with not much interior and exterior changes. The engines will also remain the same. We expect both the petrol and diesel powertrains will get the AMT gearbox. The popularity and acceptance of the AMT gearbox are gaining considerable traction in India. AMT gearbox offers similar fuel efficiency compared to a normal manual gearbox and is not much expensive to manufacture as well.
