Nissan is eying the small SUV/crossover market in India with their new Kicks. Nissan Kicks first made its appearance in the 2014 Sao Paulo Auto Show in Brazil. With the SUV rage gripping India, there cannot be a better time for Nissan to bring the production ready Kicks to the Indian Auto Market.
This sporty Crossover is based on the V-platform that is found under the pins of the Scala and the Micra. Kicks gets a Nissan family-wide chrome grill at the front; side panels have muscles and creases to give an SUV character to the car. The rear is bold and has an air of geekiness (read it love it or hate it). There are plastic claddings all across the car to exude the toughness required for an SUV/Crossover theme. The car measures 4.29m X 1.76m X 1.59 m (L X W X H).

The interior has a clean layout - the dashboard gets soft plastics, chrome and aluminum accents and the car will be a 5-seater similar to the Hyundai Creta. It also gets decent amount of legroom and shoulder room at the rear as well as the front and a reasonably spacious 383-litre boot.

The Nissan Kicks will come with both petrol and diesel motors - The 1.6-litre gasoline generates 110 bhp and the popular 1.5-liter diesel K9K dCi engine that powers the Terrano and Duster will also find its way into the Kicks hood. The car will get a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT gearbox.

The pricing is yet to be announced and we expect Nissan to price the Kicks in the Hyundai Creta / Renault Duster territory, read it as Rs.10-15 lakh price bracket. The car will also face competition from the Renault Kaptur (which is expected to be launched soon) and is believed to be priced in the same price group.
Once launched, Nissan will be eying the compact SUV segment dominated currently by the Hyundai Creta. If the Nissan gets the pricing and positioning of the Kicks right, we will witness some fierce action in the already-crowded compact SUV segment.
