Tata is all set to unleash their compact sedan, Tigor in India on 29th March 2017. The car was introduced to the general public as the Kite 5 concept at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo. Tata calls the design as “Styleback”; a name coined indigenously by Tata itself.
Tigor is a sub-four meter compact sedan derived from the Tiago. However, Tata has increased the wheelbase of the Tiago platform by 5 centimeters and the same resulted in increased rear legroom.
The major difference, when compared to the Tiago is the boot and a coupesque roof that seamlessly blends with it. The car is basically designed on Tata’s new "IMPACT" design language. The front resembles the smaller Tiago; the smiling grille and the peel back headlamps are the major highlights at the front; the profile is similar to the Tiago till the B-pillar.
The Tigor gets a larger door and slopping roof and that is what differentiates the side profile of the Tigor from the original design. The styleback design also has generated a class leading 419 litres of boot space.
The Tigor will be powered by the same petrol and diesel engines that’s currently doing duties inside the Tiago-
- Revotron petrol: 1.2 Litre engine (89 hp & 114 Nm)
- Revotorq diesel: 1.05 Litre engine (69 hp & 140 Nm)
Tata is expected to price the car pretty aggressively to leverage the novelty of the Tigor in the initial days. The prices will start at INR 5 lakh for the base petrol variant and at INR 6 lakh for the base diesel variant.
Once launched, Tigor will be the best looking compact sedan in the country and will definitely create a stir in the already ultra-competitive sub-four meter sedan segment.
