Get ready for the most powerful version of the Polo in India. The Polo GTI is all set to make an entry into the Indian car market in November 2016. The car will be brought to India as a CBU (Completely Built Unit). In Europe, Polo GTI is considered a smaller version of the iconic Golf GTI and often sits in its big brother’s shadow. GTI is a legendary moniker from the German car manufacturer and has a huge fan following.
The Polo GTI made its first appearance in the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo and VW will be bringing the three-door version of the GTI to India. For untrained eyes, it will take a while to differentiate between a normal Polo and the GTI. The signature Polo GTI grill, GTI insignias on the sides, the three doors, sports skirts on the sides and the double barrel exhausts are the major differentiators. The car tries to make a statement elegantly rather being loud.

The major highlight is the 1.8 liter turbocharged petrol TSI engine which is an absolute cracker by any standards. Under the hood, it develops a class leading 190 bhp@4000 rpm and a torque of 320 Nm@1450-4200 rpm; couple it with a light 1200 kg weight, the car literally flies with a slight dab on the throttle.

The car breaches the 100 kmph mark from rest in just 6.7 seconds (for a reference, the Abarth Punto do the same in 8.7 seconds), making it the quickest hatchback once launched in India. The transmission duties will be carried out by a 7-speed twin clutch auto box. VW has also strengthened the chassis and it comes with a sharper and quicker steering setup to compliment the extra performance dished out by the powerful engine. The car handles pretty well and comes fitted with 17-inch wheels.
All good things to read about the GTI, right? Now let us announce the price tag - the car will cost you a whopping Rs 20 lakh plus once launched in India! That’s a hell lot of money to spend on a hatchback in India.
Polo GTI once launched will be the pinnacle of performance hatchback in the country. The price tag will ensure the much-needed exclusivity as well. IBB says, if you have that sort of money in your kitty, GTI is not a bad idea at all to burn some rubber.
