BMW India launched its updated top-of-the-line 7-series in India - the previous generation 7-series launched in 2016 came with more features and tech. However, this time the major change is the engine that lies under the hood of this limo from the German automaker. This ‘7’ is the fastest ever, brought out by BMW in India.
The design gets plenty of sharp and aggressive body lines and the front gets the signature large BMW kidney shaped grille. The car gets loads of chrome at the front, sides and the rear and the inside obviously has loads of space. The ultimate luxury in this sedan is actually at the rear; with the executive lounge option, one touch of a button is what it all takes to swing the front passenger seat forward and drop a footrest for the rear occupant. The rear seats recline and align as per your comfort.
The car comes with a host of features and is the epitome of tech, comfort and driving experience. We introduce some of the cool features spotted on the new 7-series:
Smart key fob
Similar to the one which came with the BMW i8, the touch screen enabled key fob displays information like driving range, fuel level, oil level etc. You can pre-cool/pre-heat the car with the key. The key fob also allows the car to be moved forward or backward, which comes in as a very useful feature when parking in a tight space.
Carbon fiber reinforced plastic with aluminium and steel to add strength and body rigidity.
The Long Wheel Base version has an impressive 3.21 meter wheelbase and gifts you more than sufficient rear legroom even for occupants taller than 6 foot.
The new kidney grille opens or closes based on engine temperature to improve aerodynamics and reduce drag.
Laser beam lights
In laser high beam mode, BMW Laserlight illuminates a range of up to 600 meters - nearly twice as far as that of conventional headlights.
BMW Touch Command
It is a tablet with a 7-inch display integrated into the center armrest in the rear. The tablet can control various features like climate control, media, driving info and a host of other apps.
BMW Gesture Control
With BMW Gesture Control, selected functions can be operated by means of defined hand movements. Simple gestures such as 'swiping' or 'pointing' are identified in the recognition area above the center console and it triggers functions such as accepting or rejecting an incoming telephone call, proceeding or cancelling navigation as well as starting and ending voice recordings. Volume can be adjusted by circular motions of the index finger. The Gesture Control complements the existing control systems such as the iDrive Touch Controller.
Ambient Light Design and Air Package
Various direct and indirect light sources lend the interior of the BMW 7-Series its modern lounge character. The lighting concept is perfected with the panoramic glass roof Sky Lounge, where natural light sources combine with the color nuances of the Ambient light to create an unforgettable atmosphere. At the push of a button, the Ambient Air Package fills the interior of the car with a subtle, pleasant fragrance. Eight fragrances, belonging to four themes, are available, all specially composed for this car.
Panorama glass roof Sky Lounge
The Panoramic glass roof Sky Lounge gives passengers a clear view of the sky day and night, while creating a generous, open sense of space. The light-flooded interior makes an exceptionally luxurious impression. The light design can be switched between the six colours of the Ambient light.
Massage function for rear-seat passengers
Rear-seat passengers can choose between eight different massage functions in the backrest and the seat surface in order to stimulate or relax muscles in a targeted manner, leading to less pressure on the spinal discs.
The major highlight as mentioned earlier, is the new powerhouse that lies under its hood. The 750 Li M Sport gets a 4.4 Litre twin-scroll twin-turbo V8 gasoline motor that generates 445 hp and 650 Nm peak torque. This limousine gets a launch control and can breach the 100 kmph mark in just 4.7 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 kmph. The car runs on 245/45 R19 and 275/40 R19 tires at the front and the rear respectively.
The car is priced at INR 1.55 crores (ex-showroom Delhi) which is almost INR 11 lakh more than its competitor, the Mercedes-Benz S500. If you want a driver’s car in the limousine segment, don’t look further!
