The AMT version is a refined car and definitely complements the convenience facet. It will be made available on the high-end variant which is the RXT variant. The idea behind the AMT of course is to make it easier for people to drive this car in congested city roads and heavy traffic. And in a way definitely eases the experience.

Now coming to the unique part of this car – there is no gearshift. Yes, although it’s an AMT the part where the gear console is supposed to be is empty. Confused? Let’s explain – this car unlike most cars does not have the usual gear shift. Instead, there is a dial which rotates and this is placed below the infotainment system on the centre console. While it’s a big step, the reaction of people will definitely be mixed. It may seem quite outlandish to people, having the gear placed at a higher level on the console as a knob, but it does simplify driving in essence. There is an empty space where the gearshift normally rests and buyers have to adapt to that. This dial also called Shift control AMT dial by the folks at Renault, lets the driver to switch among three gear selections – Neutral, Drive and Reverse.

The interior remains unchanged. The one different aspect is the rotatory knob for the gearshift which was mentioned earlier and it goes without saying – the missing clutch pedal. The storage space between the co-passenger and driver seat has increased due to the absence of the original stick shift.

Some main features in the AMT car are – an infotainment touchscreen system with USB, AUX, Bluetooth and navigation, electric mirrors, foldable backrest, power socket, remote keyless entry and central locking, power windows, AC, instrument cluster which is digital, one-touch lane change indicator (a segment first), pro-sense seatbelt pretensioners with load limiters and radio speed dependent volume control. For safety, seatbelt warning and driver airbags are fitted. Another cool feature that this car is fitted with is an advanced control unit – this system monitors the input of throttle by optimising acceleration and gear shifting. Additionally, another function known as the crawling function is present. This works in forward and reverse motion and helps the car move slowly at idle speed when the brake is released without the use of the throttle.
