Mahindra & Mahindra is reportedly considering a market launch for the newly showcased SsangYong Rexton 4th generation SUV during the festive season in 2018. The market launch is expected sometime in the fourth quarter of the year according to reports while local assembling will commence from the second half of the year.
CKD units of the SUV will arrive from South Korea and will be assembled at the company plant in Chakan. The company will be selling the new SUV under its own brand name and there are a few design touches that are unique as well. The upper grille is different with vertical chrome slats and the gloss black frame along with the wide horizontal chrome slat.
The 7 seater version of the SUV will be offered in the Indian market although there is a 5 seater option sold globally as well. There will be a diesel 2.2-litre mill that dishes out 178 PS and 420 Nm as per reports and this will be paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission unit. There is no confirmation on whether Mahindra & Mahindra will consider a 6-speed manual transmission unit for the car in order to lower prices of entry-level versions.
Four-wheel drive will be available for the Mahindra Rexton and prices should start from Rs. 24 lakhs (ex-showroom) as per estimates. The Mahindra Rexton will take on the likes of the Isuzu MU-X, Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour in its market segment.
