Mahindra & Mahindra is already testing its S201 compact SUV and the car has been spied testing in Chennai. The S201 makes use of the X100 platform used in the SsangYong Tivoli SUV. Mahindra & Mahindra is likely to offer the car in a sub-4 metre version along with a longer version with three seating rows. The test version was the 5-seater S201 and this will be positioned above the TUV300 as a more premium option for customers as per reports.
The S201 may be different from the Tivoli with regard to the design and overall look. There will be major changes in the front fascia. There may be a new upper grille and the interiors will be largely similar to the SsangYong Tivoli. The S201 is expected to get a turbocharged 1.5-litre diesel engine along with a direct injection 1.2-litre petrol turbocharged engine. The latter will dish out 140 hp while the former will make 125 hp. The car will take on rivals like the Renault Captur and Hyundai Creta in the Indian market. The S201 may get a mid-2018 launch as per reports.
