Maruti Suzuki dominates passenger vehicle sales for October, 2017

Maruti Suzuki continued its dominance in the Indian auto market for October, 2017. The Alto wrested back the pole position from the Dzire as the top selling passenger vehicle for the month. The Alto notched up sales volumes of 19, 447 units, posting 3.14% of growth as compared to October 2016 while the Dzire sold 17, 447 units for the month after being the highest selling vehicle in the country for the months of August (31, 427 units) and September (26, 140 units). The Baleno took the third position with sales volumes of 14, 532 units, representing 35.58% of growth while the Hyundai Grand i10 took the fourth spot with sales figures of 14, 417 units.

The Maruti Suzuki WagonR followed at 5th place with sales of 13, 043 units although overall volumes went down by 13.47% as compared to the same period last year. The Maruti Celerio took the 6th position with sales volumes of 12, 209 units, indicating growth of 27.42%. The Swift came in at 7th place with 12, 057 units sold which represented de-growth of 17.4% as compared to October, 2016. However, the 2018 Swift is expected to be launched early next year and this may have been a reason for the slightly lower sales figures. The Vitara Brezza captured the 8th position with sales figures of 11, 684 units, representing 6.18% of growth.

The Hyundai i20 and Hyundai Creta took the 9th and 10th slots respectively. The i20 sold 11, 012 units which was lower than its sales volumes of 11, 532 units in October, 2016. The Hyundai Creta witnessed 7% of growth in sales volumes which stood at 9, 248 units as compared to 8, 670 units sold in October, 2016.

Maruti Suzuki currently has 50.12% in terms of market share in India. Maruti Suzuki posted overall sales growth of 9.25% for October, 2017, having sold 1,35, 128 units. The 7 models from Maruti Suzuki that are in the top 10 list collectively account for a whopping 1,00, 419 units in sales volumes which is a staggering 74.31% of the total passenger vehicle sales volumes for the company last month.
