Maruti Suzuki Ignis - Mini SUV

Maruti Suzuki unveiled their plans to bring the new Ignis to India during the recently concluded Delhi Auto Expo. This will be the first time Ignis will be produced in a plant outside Japan.

Already test mules of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis are spotted by many eagle-eyed auto enthusiasts. The Indian version is expected to come with some subtle changes to suit the Indian customer tastes. To give an idea on the dimensions of the Ignis we present you the dimension comparison of the Ignis with the massively popular Suzuki Swift.

It can be seen that the Ignis, moreover has comparable dimensions to the Swift. Interestingly both the cars have almost the same wheelbase. And, Ignis, in fact, has better boot space compared to the Swift. The car looks, feels and handles like a fusion concoction of the Swift and the Wagon R. The Ignis has the tallboy look and practicality of the Wagon R along with the style curves and finesse of the Swift.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis Interior

The interiors are made of good quality materials and have an upright theme. Black and white are the colors that dominate the dashboard. The door handles are body colored and add a sporty feel. The central console is dominated by a high set tab like infotainment system (similar to the ones on the Mercedes-Benz cars). The front seats are pretty broad and set high giving a fantastic view for the driver. The rear leg room can be best described as adequate, the high hip points make up for the lack of legroom. The rear seats are split 50:50 and can be folded fully to increase the boot space further to 415 liters.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis back

Maruti will be plonking the 1.2 Liter VTVT petrol and the 1.3 MJD diesel engines doing duties on the Swift and Baleno on the Ignis as well. This will ensure that the Ignis will be a fun to drive car like the stable mate, the Swift in both diesel and petrol avatars. The car is expected to be priced in the Rs 5 lacs to Rs 7 lacs price bracket.

As Maruti is extensively testing the car on Indian roads, we can expect the Ignis only by the end of 2016 calendar year. Most probably, Maruti will start placing the Ignis in showrooms around Christmas time. Maruti will be retailing the Ignis thru their Nexa showrooms alongside the S-Cross and the Baleno. With the Ignis Maruti will be entering the mini SUV segment and further will add to Maruti's already strong product portfolio. The car will be competing against the likes of Mahindra KUV100.
