Maruti Suzuki is developing a bigger SUV for the Indian market going by the latest reports. This SUV will be positioned as a more premium and bigger offering above the best-selling Maruti Vitara Brezza. However, the company Chairman, R C Bhargava, has reportedly confirmed that it will take more than a year to produce this SUV although he confirmed that work is going on for an SUV that will be more than 4 meters.
Maruti currently has only the S-Cross which covers more than 4 meters in this market space. This SUV may be more rugged and aligned towards a regular SUV-esque design. In this context, the company may consider launching the Suzuki Vitara which is sold in markets like the United Kingdom. The Vitara has previously been sold in India under the Grand Vitara badge. The Vitara gets 1.6 litre petrol and DDiS diesel engines that both make 120 hp in terms of term and come paired to 5-speed manual transmission units. The petrol engine gets a 6-speed automatic transmission option as well.
The Vitara S has a more powerful BoosterJet petrol 1.4 litre engine that makes 140 hp and this comes with 6-speed manual and automatic transmission choices. This vehicle also gets the AllGrip four wheel drive system from Suzuki.
