Maruti Suzuki has been sitting pretty at the top of the table in the utility vehicle category by way of sales volumes and has dethroned its nearest rival Mahindra & Mahindra by a fair margin. If the sales figures between April and October 2017 are taken into account, Maruti Suzuki contributed a whopping 28.43% of total sales in this segment while Mahindra & Mahindra managed to contribute just 26.31%. Now a large part of this success and the transformation of Maruti Suzuki from a compact car favourite to a well rounded automaker is attributed to the success of its premium NEXA models and also the Vitara Brezza compact SUV.
The Vitara Brezza started out with a bang, launching March, 2016 and selling 1 lakh units in less than a year. It doubled these sales figures in quicker time as per reports and has now touched 2,00,000 units in sales volumes within only 20 months since it launched in the Indian market. This is a massive feat for the Vitara Brezza and also Maruti Suzuki. Sales volumes have been averaging close to 10,000 units every month for the Vitara Brezza, which is also the highest selling utility vehicle in India at present.
The Vitara Brezza has kept things simple with only a 1.3 litre DDiS diesel engine option and a 5-speed manual transmission unit to go with it. However, automatic and petrol variants may be in the offing as Maruti Suzuki decides to reach out to even larger audiences. The Vitara Brezza is priced competitively between INR 7.24-9.69 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) and competes with the likes of the Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon, Mahindra TUV300 and others in the segment.
