Mercedes-Benz’s Indian market climbs up a ladder

One of the most luxurious and prime car brands of the world, Mercedes-Benz is steadily climbing up the ladder in the overall automobile market of the country. The three pointed star logo is therefore simply winning the hearts of Indians by its premium luxury, shear class and promised performance! Mercedes-Benz India sold 7171 vehicles in the first six months of 2017 which in itself is a great feat to achieve as Mercedes is a luxury brand and not all common folks of the country can afford to buy it.

Mercedes-Benz sold more vehicles in the first six months of the year in the country in comparison to Fiat, Nissan and Chevrolet. Another fact we have to keep in mind that, these previously mentioned brands do offer cheaper cars or rather budget friendly cars. In the first six months the sales of Nissan branded cars totalled at 6900 units whereas Chevrolet totalled at 6579 units. Chevrolet also announced a plan for withdrawing from the Indian market by the end of this year.

Mercedes-Benz is now within sniffing distance of the leader of the affordable luxury car segment, Skoda. Mercedes-Benz expects continued momentum in the Indian market and anticipates a stronger than ever order book as they offered large incentives in June ahead of the implementation and application of Goods and Services Tax from the 1st of July this year. As calculated, the rates under GST are lower than the combined taxes imposed earlier.

Now, as the tax rate is coming down in terms of foreign car brands, the demand will increase further and it has already become higher in the month of June according to the company’s order books. Demand is expected to go up further in the next few months on account of lowered post-GST prices as well.

One of the biggest factors, which differentiate Mercedes-Benz from other luxury car manufacturers, is that Mercedes has been able to draw buyers across every segment. From the entry-level A-class to the top of the line AMG models, every single model has witnessed growing interest from buyers. The new generation compact cars like the A-class, B-class, CLA and GLA have added significant volumes of 20-25% to the company’s overall sales tally. Mercedes Benz has the largest sales and service network amongst luxury carmakers with 87 outlets across India.
