MG Motors the famous British automotive brand (Chinese owned) has already confirmed its launch in the Indian market with an SUV as per reports. However, there was immense speculation about this vehicle being the ZS which is a suitable rival for compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta or the GS which takes on the likes of the Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, Renault Kadjar, Nissan Qashqai and Jeep Compass in several global markets.
However, the latest reports state that the MG ZS will be the one to get a market launch anytime between April and September this year. The SUV may launch in the first half of FY2018-19 and first launched globally in the year 2016. The MG ZS measures 1, 809 mm in terms of width while length and height stand at 4, 314 mm and 1, 648 mm respectively. The MG ZS also has a 2, 585 mm wheelbase and the SUV will get a naturally aspirated 1.5 litre petrol engine while there will also be a turbocharged 1.0 litre petrol engine option. The latter makes 125 PS and 170 Nm while the former dishes out 120 PS and 150 Nm. The transmission options include a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission unit for the 1.5 litre version while the 1.0 litre version comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission unit.
The MG GS, on the other hand, has a bigger wheelbase at 2, 650 mm while there are 1.5 litre turbocharged and 2.0 litre petrol engines on offer. The former dishes out 168 PS and 250 Nm of peak torque while the latter churns out an impressive 220 PS and 350 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual transmission unit and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission option for the 1.5 litre version. The 2.0 litre version gets a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission option. The MG GS may be launched sometime after the MG ZS launches in the country.
MG models will be produced at the GM plant at Halol which was taken over by the company back in September last year. This plant is presently being refurbished by the company as per reports.
