Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker has recently launched the new generation Dzire compact sedan, which is based on Suzuki’s new generation platform. The company will also launch the new generation Maruti Swift at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. Most importantly, Maruti is also supposedly working on the next generation Ertiga MPV, which is likely to be launched in 2018. First launched in 2012, the MPV received first makeover in 2015. The unique features- The next generation Ertiga will continue to offer 7 seats. Credit goes to the new HEARTECT platform, this will be more spacious and feature loaded. The new model will have family design and styling cues will be shared with the new Dzire. The cabin features and design of the dashboard, instrument console and centre console will also be sourced from the new Swift. The MPV could also get Suzuki’s SmartPlay infotainment system with 7-inch display. Ertiga’s smaller sibling – new Swift is claimed to be 120kgs lighter than the outgoing model. The new platform is expected to help next gen Ertiga to shed significant weight, which would turn into improved fuel efficiency. The MPV could also get Suzuki’s long-awaited 1.5-litre diesel engine. With higher duties on hybrid cars post GST, the next gen Ertiga would miss out on SHVS technology.
Price and other factors- The current generation Ertiga is available with two engine options – 1.4-litre petrol and that of 1.3L MJD + SHVS. Price varies between Rs 6.03 lakh – Rs 8.49 lakh. With new features and platform, the new Ertiga will be pricier than the outgoing car. It is expected that the next generation model could be priced between Rs 7 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. The new generation of Ertiga MPV will be getting a fresh set of petrol and diesel engines. As far as the gasoline version is concerned, this car is expected to be powered by a 1.4-litre unit that will produce 94bhp and 130Nm of torque, while the oil burner is 1.3L MJD + SHVS unit that is good for 89bhp and 200NM of torque. The next generation model could be powered by Suzuki’s long is anticipated to be even more lucrative which will also add power to the next Ciaz and S-Cross crossover. The petrol version is probable to get the same 1.4-litre engine, but Maruti could opt for more powerful engines. Instead of the existing engine, the next generation Ertiga could feature Suzuki’s new 1.0-litre Booster jet petrol engine that also powers the Baleno. This engine is capable of producing 100.5bhp of power and 150Nm of torque

The new model is estimated to get hexagonal mesh-grille, restyled bumper and newly developed projector headlamps with LED DRLs. Side profile of the car is expected to remain similar to the current, except for the new alloy wheels, ORVMs and door handles. At the back, the MPV is likely to get new wraparound tail-lamps and other features. Maruti Suzuki is yet to start testing the new generation Ertiga MPV. If reports are to be believed, the new model could be launched in the second half of 2018.
