It is a well-known fact that the Peugeot Citroen Motors owned by the PSA Group is all set to begin its operation in the Indian automobile market in partnership with the CK Birla Group by the year 2020. According to reports, this French automobile manufacturing company has already invested an amount of INR 700 Cr in order to set up its all-new manufacturing plant. Certain spy shots have come up on the internet showing that the Peugeot 208 is being tested in our country. With still three years remaining for the automaker to begin its operations in India, the product line-up for Peugeot India has been revealed.

It is being speculated that the French automaker will launch the 208 hatchback as a rival for the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20. Other products possibly included in the Indian lineup for Peugeot may include the 2008 SUV and 3008 SUV along with the 308 hatchback.
The Peugeot 208 hatchback in India will measure about 4 meters in length. The car will come with an attractive and premium design along with a well equipped and premium cabin as well.
Power and Engine:
The new Peugeot 208 hatchback will be powered by a 1.2 litre petrol engine whose power generating capabilities will be close to 80 bhp. Also, there can be an additional 1.5 litre diesel mill offered with the Peugeot 208. However, at present, there is no concrete information as to which engine the Peugeot 308 hatchback will use when it comes to India. However, it is highly expected that it may get the automaker’s PureTech 3 cylinder petrol motor with the availability of a diesel derivative as well.

Regarding the transmission options, both manual as well as automatic transmission options will be available for the Peugeot 208 as per reports.
About the Peugeot 308 hatchback:
The Peugeot 308 hatchback is expected to have a sedan variant and will be slightly more premium than the 208 hatchback. It will also feature a host of on-board equipment and several creature comforts. The car will compete against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City and Hyundai Verna.
Suited for Indian market:
The other two cars that will be launched in India are the Peugeot 2008 and the Peugeot 3008 SUVs. These two models will stand as new alternatives to popular SUVs in India and are likely to compete in the compact SUV and e premium compact SUV segments respectively. All of these products are to be manufactured at Peugeot’s manufacturing plant in the city of Chennai in collaboration with the C.K. Birla group’s Hindustan Motor Corporation. Also, the same channel will be responsible for the sales and service operations. The most interesting fact of all is that these products will be made in India and exclusively made for India as well.
