Engine and performance

Maruti Ciaz has been presented in both petrol and diesel fuel trims. The engines, in both the guises, have been taken from the Ertiga MPV. The petrol versions of the Ciaz use 1.4-litre K-series petrol engine producing 94bhp at 6000 rpm and 134Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. The diesel engine gets Integrated Starter Generator (ISG), larger battery and braking energy recuperation. This engine comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The petrol is also available with a four-speed automatic transmission as well.

The diesel is now equipped with SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) technology. The diesel variants come loaded with Fiat-sourced, DDiS200, 1.3L MJD engine, which is good enough for making out a maximum power output of 89 bhp at 4000 rpm and a peak torque performance of 200 Nm at 1750 rpm. It is paired with the company's conventional 5-speed manual gearbox to maximize fuel efficiency. There is no automatic transmission on offer in the diesel guise.

It has McPherson Strut as the front suspension and Torsion Beam as the rear suspension, which absorb potholes on the road reasonably well. As for acceleration, the 1.4 L petrol motor takes off briskly but you can't expect it to deliver a performance similar to 1.5L i-VTEC engines in cars like Honda Amaze. It is well suited for city driving and can be driven with utmost ease at medium speeds.

The Ciaz guarantees a fuel efficiency of 28.09km/l, making it the most efficient car in the country. The petrol model has a mileage of 20.3 km/l.

Safety

Maruti has incorporated an efficient braking system in the sedan with front brakes being ventilated discs and the rear ones being drum brake. Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) acts as a secondary braking system and is available across every trim. As far as the primary safety features are concerned one can find the dual front airbags, seat belts with pre tensioners and force limiters, and reverse parking sensor and camera. The Total Effective Control Technology (TECT) platform ensures a sturdier built and the engine immobilizer and anti-theft security system as standard features across the entire variant range as well.
