Skoda India has unveiled the Rapid Edition X which will be a replacement for the Rapid Monte Carlo Edition. The latter was launched at a price of INR 10.75 lakhs (ex-showroom) sometime back by Skoda India. However, the brand faces restrictions on using the Monte Carlo name since the trademark for the same is reportedly owned by a producer of apparel and clothing from Punjab who took the matter to a district court.
This resulted in a temporary injunction on Skoda India using this moniker for its exclusive series cars. More interestingly, Skoda India already pays the Monaco monarchy for using this brand name after the region in the French Riviera.

However, Skoda India has now solved this problem by rebranding the Rapid Monte Carlo as the Rapid Edition X. There will be no design changes although dual color options will be offered, namely Flash Red with a black roof and Candy White with a black roof. There will be a few cosmetic enhancements including black treatment for the tail lamp cluster, front grille, body accents, headlamp inserts and ORVMs. The rear will get a black grained diffuser along with 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.
There is a flat bottom three-spoke steering wheel which comes with black perforated leather covering. The gearstick knob and dashboard panels get special decorative stitching in red. There are black/red leatherette seats with grey vertical stripes. There are ribbed stainless steel pedals in tandem with an instrument panel with sportier graphics.
Some of the key safety features include central locking, Parktonic rear parking sensors, dual airbags, ABS, hill hold assist and electronic stability control. The car also gets a cooled glove box, cruise control and rain sensing wipers. The Skoda Rapid competes with rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento, Hyundai Verna and Honda City in India.
