Tata Motors commences UK testing for self-driving Hexa

A unique trial was conducted on public roads in Coventry, UK which was the biggest testing process for connected and autonomous cars for the very first time. Among these participants was the self driving Hexa SUV from Indian car brand Tata Motors which has been manufactured by the TMETC (Tata Motors European Technical Centre).

UK Autodrive is a leading association for bringing together major automobile brands and the UK Government on a single platform for developing and testing self driving and autonomous vehicles in the United Kingdom. The organization was established a few years back and Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover have already commenced independent testing on public roads.


However, trained drivers have been deployed behind the steering wheel as a precautionary measure. Jaguar Land Rover has also offered the Range Rover Sport and F-Pace models for this project. These trials were held in order to find out the on-road effectiveness and viability of the autonomous technologies and how they would fare in real world driving circumstances. Companies introduce their latest technologies into existing car models in order to work out possibilities for retrofitting into present production models.

The vehicles participating in this project also come with the EVW (Emergency Vehicle Warning) system which detects signals provided by emergency vehicles such as police vehicles or ambulances. They also come with Intersection Priority Management (IPM), ICW (Intersection Collision Warning) and many other features.
