The company that conceived the revolutionary compact sedan segment is yet to launch their compact SUV in the country. For quite a while it’s a grapevine that something is brewing at Tata for this segment. And finally, Tata uncovered the production ready Tata Nexon in the recently concluded Delhi Auto Expo, jostling for space in the compact SUV segment with the Ford Ecosport and the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
Functionality over form is what Tata always believed while designing cars. But, this one is a looker. The designers at the Tata design house has done a fantastic job. The car gets an attractive and edgy design. The car has a lot of unique styling elements never seen not only in the Tata line of cars but many of the design cues are segment first. The car looks astounding and is true to the concept and it has all the oomph to stand apart from the current genre of compact SUVs.
The front has oodles of chunkiness, dominated by the big family design smiling grill coupled with large air dams. The car has a unique ceramic design element which runs along the fog lamps, the side belt line and across the rear.

The car has a distinctive sloping roof, the C-Pillar and rear has a very unique, interesting and gorgeous design. The car stands on wider 245/60 R16 tyres with a chunky looking set of alloys and has good ground clearance.
Spacious interiors have always been the core strength of Tata cars, and the way Tata engineers generates useful room on any car template is something which needs an ovation. The Tata Nexon carries on the same pedigree and has a fantastic amount of space inside. Despite having a sloping roof line, there is ample headroom at the rear and there is acres of front and rear legroom. The seats are comfy with the right amount of cushion and ample under thigh support. The seat has been ergonomically scooped inside for ample support for the occupants. The dash design and the quality of materials used will simply blow you away and by far the best in the compact SUV segment. Tata has used a unique glossy plastic line across the dash board and the textured top exudes premium. Tata has used the right amount of chrome, piano black, glossy metallic plastic and textured matt materials for the dash and other parts of the interior. The car has a floating display infotainment system, similar to the one we see on the Mercedes cars and it just looks classy and premium. In one word, the interior fit and finish are a class above it really belongs to.
If the rumors are right, Tata will be plonking a newly developed 1.5 Liter diesel unit that generates a class leading 110 bhp/ 260 Nm mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
The car is expected to price the car aggressively starting at Rs 7 Lakhs for the base variant to Rs 9.5 Lakhs ex-showroom price for the top end fully loaded variant.
The car is expected to be launched during the September 2016.
IBB Initial Impression
Tata Nexon ticks all boxes what a Compact SUV buyer looks in. The car has an edgy and attractive design and great amount of space.
