Upcoming Cars in India

The 2016 Auto Expo showcased many upcoming cars that will be launched soon on the Indian roads. We take you thru the top five upcoming cars below the 5 lakhs price bracket.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis

Maruti Suzuki Ignis

Maruti is soon set its foot into the newest segment, the mini SUV segment with the Ignis. This car was first introduced as a concept (code name iM4) in the 2015 Tokyo Motor show. The car has a boxy design language with SUV character infused. The same boxy character with modern elements is carried to interiors as well. The car is spacious with adequate legroom and headroom in the front as well as the rear. The car is expected to be powered by a 1.2 Liter K series petrol and the popular 1.3 Liter Multijet Diesel power pots. Suzuki may also try to plonk in the smaller 0.8 Liter, 2 cylinder Multijet diesel engine doing duties on the Diesel Celerio on the Ignis.

Tata Tiago

Tata Tiago

Tata has renamed the Tata Zica as the Tiago, considering the uncomfortable similarity of the name to the ‘Zika’ virus. With this car, Tata is trying to build connect with the young car buyers. Right from the beginning, Tata was consciously trying to build  connect with this car and the youth  thru various media. Tata Tiago is an all new design, drawn on a clean slate. Though the car looks unmistakably Tata, appreciatively the car doesn’t take any design from the Indica genre. It is the third car, after the Zest and the Bolt to be developed under Tata’s Horizonext customer focus strategy and the leap in quality shows on the product. The car has a fine blend of youthful elements and a mature stance and will be one of the best-looking hatchbacks in the country, once launched. The interiors are made from top quality plastics and exude an air of premium all over. Like the stable mates, Tiago is pretty spacious inside.

Tata is bringing in a new 1.2 Liter Revotron 3-cylinder all aluminum DOHC petrol engine and a 1.05 Liter 3-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine for the powering duties on the Tiago. Tata for sure will be pricing the car aggressively in the already crowded hatchback segment.

Tata Pelican

Tata Pelican

Tata has set its eye on the Maruti Suzuki Alto. Tata Motors is said to be developing a new car just above the Nano to compete against the likes of the immensely popular Maruti Alto 800 and the recently launched Renault Kwid. The car’s design will be influenced by the Tata’s concept Pixel and the existing Nano, giving a futustic look to the Pelican. The car will be priced just above the Tata Nano, at a ballpark price starting at Rs 2.5 Lakhs. The car is expected to be powered by a new 1 Liter petrol engine, most probably a variant from the Revotron family. The car is expected to hit the Indian roads by the end of 2016 calendar year.

Datsun Redi-Go

Datsun Redi Go

Datsun showcased the Redi-Go, based on Renault’s CMF-A platform which shares the underpinning of the Renault Kwid. The car draws styling inspiration from the Renault Kwid, giving it a mini SUV silhouette. The car will have interior space similar to the Kwid and will be a reworked design theme with added premium of the existing Datsun Go. The car is expected to be powered by the existing 1.2 Liter 67 bhp petrol engine doing duties on the Datsun Go.

Chevrolet Beat

Chevrolet Beat

Chevrolet is bringing an upgraded version of their existing Chevrolet Beat; the car was showcased in the 2016 Auto Expo as well. The underpinnings of the new Beat will be carried forward from the existing one. The styling cues are based on the new Chevrolet Spark, rather than the existing Beat. The car will be powered by the 1.2 Liter S-Tec II petrol engine dispensing 77 bhp and Diesel will be powered by the 1.0 Liter XSDE engine dispensing 56 bhp or most probably the 1.3 Liter MJD sourced from FIAT.
