The German automobile manufacturer, Volkswagen has expanded its portfolio in India and is planning to enter the compact SUV market which is currently led by Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster. The newly appointed director of Volkswagen India, Steffen Knapp, has announced that Volkswagen might bring out the T-Cross SUV in India to give competition to the monopoly of Hyundai Creta.
The Volkswagen T-Cross will be based on the MQB A0 platform and will be based of the prototype of the T-Cross Breeze. The specifications of the T-Cross SUV will be revealed in 2018 and the price will range between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh.
For the Indian market, the compact SUV could derive power from the 1.2-litre four-cylinder TSI petrol motor. It will churn out a maximum power output of 112 hp and the diesel mill could be a 1.5-litre diesel TDI producing 117 hp currently built in India. The car is set to get revamped interior and exterior. The dimensions are expected to be the same as T-Cross Breeze.

In place of physical switches and dials like transmission controls and window operating switches, it had two big touch screens displaying the required in-car information. The new SUV range is more likely to get a fresh design language and high-tech interiors besides soft touch high-quality materials. The compact SUV is expected to be more spacious with plenty of equipment offered.

The subsidiary of Volkswagen, Skoda will also follow the footsteps of the car and will be producing cars with the MQB platform or developing a re-engineered version of it in India.
