The 2018 Auto Expo is on the anvil and Mahindra & Mahindra may look to showcase the new 2018 SsangYong Rexton at the mega event as per reports, although the market launch may happen in October this year. The big question is, will it be a SsangYong model or sport a Mahindra badge? Experts seem to think that the Mahindra badge may be used since the SsangYong brand may not find favor amongst a large section of buyers.
The Mahindra Rexton XUV700 may be a potential name for the car. The India-spec model is expected to be quite similar to the global one, particularly in terms of design. The car will be positioned as the flagship model, ahead of the XUV500 and will compete with segment toppers like the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Skoda Kodiaq and Isuzu MU-X among others. The Rexton will have a few design changes in order to sport Mahindra & Mahindra’s family design touches.
The car may have a new front grille with vertical slots and new alloy wheels while the interior trim may be different from the global version in order to keep costs more competitive. The SsangYong Rexton may be cheaper than the Toyota Fortuner by around Rs. 4 lakhs according to reports. Prices may hover around the Rs. 24 lakhs mark (ex-showroom) and some of the features of the global model include cooled seats, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 9.2 inch HD touch screen infotainment unit, LCD instrument cluster, 360-degree camera and projector headlamps.
