Customers planning on buying the brand new 2018 WagonR from Maruti Suzuki this year should wait till Diwali 2018. The latest reports indicate a festive season launch for the new WagonR in 2018. The car has been testing extensively throughout the country and will arrive as a new-age competitor to the upcoming Santro from Hyundai and possibly its own stablemates like the Celerio.
The WagonR has always been a hugely popular and high selling car for Maruti Suzuki in India. It has consistently made it to the list of best-selling Indian cars and the company will be looking to tap into the brand value and widespread acceptance of the hatchback to drive higher sales volumes with the 2018 version.
The 2018 WagonR will continue with its cute tall-boy design but will get several new features and a slightly revised front fascia according to reports. Japan got the latest WagonR model in 2017 itself which uses the HEARTECT platform (used for the Baleno, Dzire and Swift). However, the Indian version may be tweaked in terms of design and may/may not use the HEARTECT platform.
The new 2018 WagonR will offer more boot and cabin space and will have ABS and other safety features. There will be new LED tail lights on offer along with a new infotainment system and dashboard. There should be a bigger bonnet for the Indian version to accommodate the 67 hp 1.0 litre mill that will be paired to 5-speed manual or AMT gearboxes. Steering mounted controls will also be available for the 2018 WagonR.
