The leak of the images online was soon followed by the unveiling of the next generation BMW X5 SUV, which flaunts a more rugged look, larger proportions, and advanced technology. Based on the automaker’s CLAR Architecture, the new X5 will go on sale internationally around November this year. The Indian automobile market, however, will not witness it before 2019. The car features a more evolved styling with distinctly larger proportions, as compared to its predecessor. Despite the familiar silhouette, the grille is now larger and more prominent. The SUV gets adaptive LED headlights as standard, and the BMW Laser lights offered as optional. Coming to the rear profile, the fourth generation X5 is accompanied by distinctive LED taillights.
As far as the interior is concerned, the 2019 BMW X5 borrows certain elements from the 5 Series, thus lending it consridrbale familiarity. The SUV gets a 12.3 inch screen for the instrument console, besides a larger touchscreen infotainment system. Acoustic needs are taken care of by a 1500 watt 20 speaker system from Bowers & Wilkins. The new X5 also promises digital services and cloud mobility, ensuring that the car can be connected to a number of digital devices. Other features of the cabin include, four-zone climate control, panoramic glass roof, Dynamic interior light, and so on.
Under the hood, the new BMW X5 has been announced with the 3.0 litre turbocharged in-line six-cylinder engine that develops 335bhp and 447Nm of peak torque. The SUV can be propelled from 0-100kmph in only 5.3 seconds. The new 4.4 litre V8 engine that is tuned for 454bhp and 650Nm of peak torque will also make its debut. Both engines come paired with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission and All-Wheel drive, with a locking differential offered as an option. The safety features include, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, front and rear collision warnings, pedestrian monitoring, and city collision mitigation. Besides, one can also expect optional Active Driving Assistant Professional that packs in traffic jam assist, lane keeping assist, automatic lane changing, and collision evasion aid with steering assist.
