Tata pulled out a pleasant surprise at the recently concluded Geneva Motor Show 2018 by unveiling their EVision sedan concept. EVision encapsulates Tata’s vision on electric vehicles for the future and their technical and design prowess in car making.

The EVision is based on Tata’s new Impact design 2.0 which is an advanced form of Tata’s Impact design language introduced to the auto world in the Tata Tiago. Tata earlier showcased the same design language at Auto Expo 2018 in their H5X SUV and 45X hatchback. For a quick comparison, the car is about the same size of a Jaguar XE or a Mercedes-Benz C-Class. It is a four-door hatchback with a coupe-like roofline. The rear boot integration reminds us of the way it’s done on the Tata Tigor.

The car is based on the new scalable OMEGA (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced) ARC platform which will underpin the future electric cars from Tata measuring 4.3 meters or more in length. The same platform can be spotted under the H5X SUV.

Tata EVision concept features frameless doors. The car features some bold lines and creases and has a sharp look. The EVision concept features in the Geneva Motor show came with large 21-inch alloy wheels. The sedan also gets glass roof with Tata’s new tri-arrow design.

The interior design of the EVision hints at the future interior designs of Tata cars. The design is minimalistic, elegant and has an air of ‘geeky’ness. Interior is a combination of beige, wood and brushed steel elements. The cabin packs in three LCD screens; digital cockpit in place of essential gauges behind the steering wheel, retractable central infotainment screen and a long and slim screen seamlessly integrated into the dashboard.

Car offers acres of interior space and is devoid of the central tunnel liberating additional space at the rear.

The AC vents have a unique slim design. The steering wheel is leather wrapped and flat bottom with piano black and brushed steel inserts.

Tata has not divulged details on the engine and mechanical front. However, they have indicated that the car will be pretty quick and can reach 100Kmph on the odometer under 7-seconds with a rated top speed of 200 kmph.

Fuelling the EVision will be the power stored in a cylindrical-cell-lithium-ion-battery pack, similar to the one used by Tesla. It is believed to be extremely space efficient and can hustle the EVision up to a 300Km-400Km range on a full charge depending on the driving conditions.

EVision is a testimonial to the fact that how far Tata has come from the Indica days (Exactly 20 years back at the same Geneva Motor Show Sir Ratan Tata unveiled their first passenger car, the Indica).
