BMW M2 and M5 Competition models are due to launch soon in the Indian market. The M2 Competition will be the top-end 2 Series Coupe version from BMW and has Hockenheim Silver Metallic and Sunset Orange Metallic color options with a larger kidney grille and brand new front apron that has larger air intakes. There is an engine oil cooler as well.
There is M-badging for the ORVMs in addition to 19-inch forged alloy wheels. There are M Sport brakes and larger brake discs along with grey colored brake calipers. The car will also have new quad tail pipes at the back and M Competition exclusive badging. There is a door sill logo, new instrument cluster, new engine start/stop button and illuminated M backrests for the front seats. There is a new petrol bi-turbo 3.0 litre 6 cylinder engine that dishes out 410 PS and 550 Nm of peak torque. There is also a 6-speed manual transmission system and 7-speed M dual-clutch automatic option.
100 kmph can be achieved in just 4.2 seconds and the automatic variant can touch 100 kmph in 4.4 seconds. The top speed of the M2 Competition variant is 250 kilometres per hour while the M Driver’s Package can scale this up to 280 kilometres per hour. The M2 Competition will be priced between Rs. 80-85 lakhs (ex-showroom) in the Indian market and should launch around Diwali this year.
The M5 Competition may be launched after the M2 Competition model and will get the 4.4 litre twin-turbo petrol V8 engine. This engine dishes out 625 PS and 750 Nm. The car will touch 100 kmph and 200 kmph in 3.3 seconds and 10.8 seconds respectively. The M5 Competition can achieve 250 kmph and 305 kmph as the top speed with the M Driver’s Package which is optional.
There is 128 mm of ground clearance for the M5 Competition and comes with new anti-roll bar mounting and stiffer front and rear axle springs. The auxiliary springs are shorter and there is better tuning for the damper hydraulics for lowering fluctuations in wheel load. There are 20-inch forged bi-color Y spoke wheels with body colored door openers. There are several black high-gloss elements and the M5 Competition logo for the boot lid. The M5 Competition also gets black seat belts and striped pattern in M colors. There is variant-specific piping for the floor mats with the M5 logo. There is also the M Competition graphic for the instrument console.
