In a major development, Ford will be co-developing three sub-4m SUVs for the Indian market in partnership with Mahindra & Mahindra. These SUVs include the new generation EcoSport model which is currently named as the Ford B680 and will arrive anytime in 2020 as per reports. Before the EcoSport, there will be the Ford B763 which will be a sub-4m rival for the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. There will also be the Mahindra & Mahindra S201 (based on the SsangYong Tivoli) which will launch in India as well.
Ford has now junked the One Ford market strategy for India due to the price-sensitive nature of this auto market. While several global markets will get high-tech EV offerings like the Ford Focus Electric model, India will have offerings like the electric version of the Ford Aspire Electric. This will be a full-length version since EVs will not be taxed as per their length. This will have EV technologies sourced from Mahindra Electric according to reports. Ford will thus be able to place bids for orders from EESL and other entities.
