Hyundai Kona Electric SUV Revealed Prior To Geneva Motor Show Debut

The Hyundai Kona Electric SUV is expected to be globally showcased at this month’s Geneva Motor Show. However, Hyundai Motor Company has gone ahead and shown the compact SUV officially. This electric SUV gets two models with short and long range battery options.

The Hyundai Kona may launch in 2019 in the Indian market and this will be imported via the CKD route. Assembling will take place at Hyundai’s plant in Tamil Nadu. The Kona comes with no air vents in front and a closed grille. The overall design is quite stylish and the interiors are jazzed up by the digital supervision 7-inch instrument cluster and the floating touchscreen infotainment system. There is SmartSense driving assistance along with active safety technologies as well.

The short-range version gets the 39.2 kW lithium-ion Polymer battery pack paired with the electric motor which churns out 395 Nm and 133 BHP. The battery offers 299 km as the driving range and can do the 0-100 kmph dash in only 9.3 seconds. This version comes with 167 kmph in top speed. The battery can be fully charged within 6 hours and 10 minutes. Using a quick charger ensures up to 80% of charge.

The long-range version comes with the 64 kW lithium-ion Polymer battery paired to the electric motor. The outputs are 201 BHP and 395 Nm. The driving range and top speed stand at 469 km and 167 kmph respectively. The 0-100 kmph dash can be achieved in 7.6 seconds. Full charging for the battery takes 9 hours and 40 minutes while a quick charger (100 kW DC) ensures up to 80% charge in just 54 minutes.
