When every car manufacturing company is looking into the prospect of EVs, then how far could Jeep be? Particularly popular for their off road SUV models; Jeep has promised to launch full electric SUVs. Very recently they announced the designing and launch of 4 new full electric SUVs that they plan to bring on road by 2022. That gives them a steep target of 4 new cars in four years.
However, this is not all that Jeep is planning to do. They are looking at redesigning the powertrain for all their cars. In the future, every car that comes from the house of Jeep will have electrification. At least 10 plug-in hybrid models will also come from Jeep. The promising and efficient future of EVs has made Jeep take this design decision.
The 4 full electric SUVs that the company has planned; shall be available at different segments, keeping in mind the market and customer base. India will see the smallest SUV of the group, Renegade SUV. Once it hits the markets of India, it will be a direct competition to Mahindra Scorpio, Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta and alike.
Another full electric SUV could possibly be a mid-sized SUV under the Cherokee range. Jeep’s classic and extremely popular Wrangler SUV will also see a new full electric version of itself. And along with that there will be a hybrid plug-in version of Wrangler SUV as well. Wrangler has already established a strong market for itself, now these versions will capture the attention of the buyers.
Grand Commander in China should also be extremely interested in the electric powertrain that Jeep is planning. As far as the diesel engines are concerned, Jeep will phase them out in Europe for lack of customer base, whereas, it will introduce the new Wrangler with diesel engine in the United States.
