The Indian auto industry is abuzz with news of Maruti Suzuki launching the brand new Vitara SUV in the country this year. There are possibilities of the car being launched in the second half of 2018 after the facelifted Ciaz is launched. Maruti Suzuki is already testing the car here and this will be a much-needed competitor for the hot-selling Hyundai Creta. The new Vitara will get Suzuki AllGrip AWD and will measure 4175 mm by way of length. The height and width of the car stand at 1610 mm and 1775 mm respectively.
The car will also get a 2500 mm wheelbase and there will be a brand new 1.6-litre DDiS diesel mill used for it. This engine is sourced from Fiat and makes 120 PS and 320 Nm. There will also be a 1.5-litre petrol engine available for the Vitara in the Indian market. A 6-speed manual transmission unit is expected to be available for the Vitara along with a touchscreen infotainment unit complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
The Vitara could be priced anywhere between Rs.10-15 lakhs (Ex-Showroom) and will take on formidable rivals like the Mahindra XUV500, Nissan Terrano, Renault Duster and Honda BR-V apart from the Hyundai Creta.
