Strom Motors is a startup based in Mumbai and has now unveiled the upcoming R3 electric car which is expected to go on sales sometime around November 2018 as per reports. The Strom R3 has a single wheel at the rear and two wheels in front and could be priced at around INR 3 lakhs (ex-showroom) at the time of its launch.
The company has received 30 pre-orders already and is awaiting ARAI approval within 6-8 weeks after which official test drives for the car will start. The reverse trike configuration apart, the R3 has Pure and Current variants along with the top-end Bolt variant which will have a driving range up to 120 kilometres. The other two will have a driving range up to 80 kilometres.
Strom Motors claims that the two-door electric car can be fully charged in 6-8 hours while using a fast charger gets up to 80% of charge within a couple of hours. There is a 13 kW engine that dishes out 48 Nm and this is mated to a single-speed planetary gearbox. There is electronic regenerative braking technology along with a muscular front bumper and two-tone paint theme.
There are ORVMs, 12-inch alloy wheels, LED lights and a sunroof along with Neon Blue, Black, Electric Blue and Red colour options. The car gets a 2012 mm wheelbase along with seating capacity for 2-3 people. There is a space-frame high strength steel chassis for the car along with front McPherson struts and dual shock absorbers. There is a rear drum brake along with hydraulic brakes in front.
Key features include climate control and air conditioning, maps and navigation, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, captain seats or a single bench seat, USB/FM audio unit, customizable user interface, voice control, 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, rear camera and parking assist, remote keyless entry, power windows and 3-point seatbelts. There are rear and front storage compartments for luggage.
Bookings have commenced already for the Strom R3 and a nationwide roadshow is being arranged for helping buyers get a firsthand feel of the car. Upon its launch, the Strom R3 will compete with the Uniti Electric Car which is also expected to launch prior to 2020.
