While there is so much anticipation around, the new Volvo S60 has been unveiled in a camouflaged image by the company boss Hakan Samuelsson. Only a glimpse of the car has been revealed which is enough to heat up the market. The new Volvo S60 has been going under tests in Norway. According to the company, the car is expected to go into production later this year. It would be manufactured in the company’s new factory in Carolina, United States. As per the data, the plant has the ability to produce 100,000 units of the vehicle per year.
It was expected that the vehicle would be presented in the coming Geneva Motor Show like the Volvo V60. But the company confirmed that it would not be exhibited in the upcoming show. The company has been discreet about S60 and has refused to reveal any further information about the vehicle. However, the camouflaged picture of the car confirms that the vehicle would go into production within few months’ time. Talking about the design, it has been made on the same platform as V60, which is Scalable Product Architecture (SPA). The same platform is used to develop other big cars of the company.
The interesting part is that Volvo V60’s image was leaked ahead of the Geneva Motor Show. It is supposed that both V60 and S60 would be similar in front design and style. Although the V60 car was camouflaged during the initial days, the designs were quite visible. Moving on to the specifications, the new S60 is expected to be similar to XC60, along with Momentum spec at the entry level. It would also feature a similar R-design at the top. The car would have safety features which are more advanced compared to Euro NCAP.
Talking about the engine, the new S60 would feature the same as V60. The D3 units would be capable of producing158bhp of power while the D4 unit would have the ability to produce 190bhp. There would also be a 245hp T5 petrol engine variant. The car has generated another set of anticipation with the new image. The similarities to V60 reveal few of the details of the car while there are few things which remain under cover. The company has been silent over the development of the car and its launch. The image showed over the internet states that the development is going on track.
