PM to inaugurate the Eastern Peripheral Expressway this month

The Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) is the first smart and green highway that is constructed with the aim to decongest the heavy traffic of the Delhi NCR region by diverting about 2 lakh vehicles entering the capital city of India. The Expressway will be inaugurated by Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.  It is a 135 km stretch comprising of six lanes and will connect Palwal, Gautam Budhh Nagar, Faridabad and Ghaziabad. An amount of approximately Rs 11,000 crore has been invested in the project with about Rs 4,420 crore being used up in the construction work. There will be a set up halt stations at six locations and there will be several petrol pumps, washrooms, motels, restaurants, eateries, shops and repair services along the entire stretch at reasonable intervals.

The expressway will be made technologically advanced with installation of intelligent highway traffic management system, video incident detection system, systems for monitoring vehicle speeds, weigh-in-motion, warning devices, pavement management systems and a fibre-optics network, rain water harvesting facility, eight solar power plants and more. The expressway will have toll plazas which will be equipped electronic toll collection (ETC) for faster passage and lesser congestion. There has been plans of planting 2.5 lakh trees and 28 fountains along the sides of the expressway creating a green zone. The commuters will also find thirty-six replicas of famous monuments like the Ashoka Lion, Ashoka Chakra, Gateway of India, Qutab Minar, Konark Temple, Jaliyanwala Bagh, Char Minar, Lal Quila, Kirti Stambh, India Gate, Hawa Mahal, and more.
