As per the surveys and analysis driving in the night is three times more dangerous than driving during the day despite having far less vehicle on the road during the night hours. The simple reason is, you see less in night compared during the day time. Also, falling asleep while driving is another major contributor for accidents during the night hours. Avoid frequent night driving: If you can avoid night driving, do so. Most of the human beings are designed to sleep during late night hours. Also, it is not necessary only for your to fall asleep, an accident can be caused by the other driver falling asleep at the wheels.

  • Light direction and Focus: Always ensure that the headlamps are properly aligned and focused correctly. Also, use better wattage bulbs (provided consent obtained from RTO/concerned authorities)
  • Dim light to the car coming in the opposite direction.
  • Don’t stare on the high beams of opposite coming vehicles, it can create temporary blindness.
  • Use auxiliary lights to enhance the field of vision (only if it is allowed by the raod laws)
  • Be extra vigilant while driving in the night.
  • Always keep in mind that your judgment on distance will be highly impaired at night, so drive slow than you do in the day time.
  • STOP when you feel sleepy. Ensure all your lights are properly working.
  • If you feel like stopping to take rest, choose a fuel station or near a toll booth where there are a lot of people around and is well lit.
  • Curb the temptation to drive fast during the night, maintain a steady speed. Avoid driving alone, a co-passenger will help the driver to keep driver keep awake.
  • Take tea/coffee breaks whenever required. Don’t race against the clock. Time is precious but your life is more precious.
