VW Golf GTD Is Being Tested in Karnataka, India

One will not expect to see a Volkswagen Golf GTD in India. But recently this very unlikely thing happened where the VW Golf GTD was seen to be tested in the country with its badge properly glorifying the car’s front fascia. There was no camouflaging or hiding of any kind. A camera caught this very testing taking place in Bengaluru. The cars being tested had temporary Karnataka registered number plates as well. There was emission testing apparatus connected to the rear of the car, at its tailpipe. The machine is similar to that of Bosch. The car did not have Maharashtra (Chakan) number plates unlike the other VW test models.

Probably VW (people’ car) is using Bosch’s new diesel technology for its golf GTD. The new diesel technology brought about by Bosch is a cutting edge emission reducer technology. This will reduce emission of harmful nitrogen oxides (or NOx species) to a very high extent. The extent of this remission is so high that it happily complies with future limits. It has been seen that in case of RDE or Real Driving Emissions testing of these Bosch technology utilizing cars, the vehicles thus containing premiered Bosch diesel technology showed low emission limits and these cars are supposed to be out in the market by the year 2020.

The VW Golf GTD has been built on the MQB platform. It is a performance oriented car and is a better variant of the presently available Golf Mk7. Golf GTD is bigger and also better in terms of equipment studding in comparison to popular Indian market VW – the Polo GTI. Golf GTD has better specifications and more features than the Polo GTI. The Gold GTD has incorporation of features like – a black classy exterior, full LED headlamps, LED daytime running lamps, black mesh grille, GTD badge and large air intakes. There are also alloy wheels and LED taillamps on the car.

Let us come to the engine specifications of the VW Golf GTD. The cabin is a spacious and hi tech one. One gets to see a number of technologically advanced equipment inside the car. There are state of the art infotainment system, dial controls for automatic air con system, and 12.3-inch colour screen with navigation display in 2D or 3D. The power unit is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine generating a maximum power output of 181 bhp and a peak torque of 350 Nm. It comes coupled to a 7 geared DSG automatic transmission.
